Work is shared among sites, design and manufacture may occur around the globe for identical products and therefore business partnership , work and data must be shared seamlessly. Highly standardized processes and system landscapes are the key enabler that links it all together. Cross-functional integration via Business Process Owner and Process Information Office is a key to protect investments and to open the door for innovation.
Whilst change is focused on the "work-level" and continuous improvement, innovation on the "planning-level" constitutes an exception on Global ERPs.
To gain long-term acceptance focus on Organizational Change Management during the Project Life Cycle is required to get an integrated end to end view, confidence and documented acceptance. This is more evident looking forward to sustain activities during and after implementations. Tams need to stay in place, compliance activities pre-requisite consistency.
Several considerations need to be taken for a successful program, following are sure those who will drive to fail: Top Management does not address vision and expectation properly to enable change, scope and deployment approach does not fit to Company environment, corresponding timeline and budget underestimated or simply a common program language missing.
To run global environments, it has to be ensured that a clear working permit to start a Global ERP program is given, underlined by strong top-management buy-in for the whole program life cycle. The business blueprint is created before fixing a contract to minimize the change requests. Therefore phase in the changes where mandatory, but stick to the overall scope decided. "Toll-gate reviews," with Business and IT to assess project status from your own position, as well as the performing vendors will limit degree of surprises and verify a doable mission. People will perform well if they are convinced of the vision and the Project Lead's capability to deliver it a project by execution. Communication should not be assumed as given.
With this drivers for flawless and sustainable global programs are defined: Process and data harmonization, organizational change management and standardized work. This will create an environment a single source of truth at one table.
