Press Release – Changeover from S5 to S7 – stunning simple 10.05.2009 Changeover from S5® to S7® - stunning simple Right in time for the SPS/IPC/Drives VIPA GmbH, located in Herzogenaurach comes up with a novelty on the world market – The modification of an existing S5 system to an S7 system by means of a PROFIBUS DP interface module. Integrating an existing S5 system into the world of S7 has so far only been possible including a great deal of effort, high expenses on modification and especially long down times. These kinds of problems do fortunately no longer exist. The VIPA IM306DP slave now enables a step by step modification of an S5 system – with shortest down times. Existing systems of the series 115U to 155U can be modified via the IM306DP interface module without any problems. The VIPA IM306DP slave simply needs to be integrated to the S5 extension rack and then connected to an S7 CPU via PROFIBUS DP. This enables the connection of digital and analog modules from the S5 series to S7 modules. The advantage of this solution is that complex wiring will no longer be required. Due to the redundant modification, this solution additionally provides an utmost level of safety to the installation.
