The percentage of shoppers who are buying online is continuing to increase.
The number of people using online shopping cart solutions to make purchases is continuing to rise.
According to the latest statistics reported by the IMRG/BPS Internet Access and Online Shopping in Britain report, the amount of people with internet access who were buying online in the second half of last year was 67.3 per cent.
This total marks an increase on the 66 per cent of internet users that were utilising online shopping cart solutions during the same period in 2008.
The study also found that for those who were using online search engines the number buying over the web increased by 2.4 per cent to 91.9 per cent, despite searches falling by 0.5 per cent in the same period.
Instead, social media has been highlighted in the survey as being a major driver of traffic towards commerce sites.
Firms that sell over a variety of channels were found in the BT Expedite survey to be focusing their investment into their websites, since this has been identified as an area of growth.
