Beschreibung
Throughout the last decade, the global manufacturing industry has invested to optimise its carbon footprint. Targets calling for a 50 percent reduction in emissions or 35 percent reduction in energy consumption are now common. While these strategies can offerbusiness opportunities, only a few companies possess the know-how to unlock the potential of transferring a ‘cost base’ of energy consumption into a sustainable ‘revenue stream’ of energy generation.
PA Consulting Group supported a global manufacturing company across their European production sites in analysing their current CO2 footprint and developing a CO2 reduction strategy. The client’s target called for a reduction of CO2 emissions through a 20 percent reduction of energy generation in addition to a 30 percent reduction of energy consumption by 2020. For achieving this, a CO2 reduction of 120,000 t/a from 2020 onwards is necessary.
PA conducted detailed analysis of energy production, consumption, and investment plans across more than 20 sites, covering more than 80 percent of the company’s total emissions. The number and diversity of the production sites, different geographic energy markets and regulations posed a challenge, yet, the integrated team identified opportunities for the company to increase the use of renewable energy and provided an assessment of their potential to reduce CO2 emissions.
