Globalisation’ is a term that evokes mixed reactions. Those that benefit welcome it, others condemn it. We say it is inevitable.
Today, German business faces several challenges to its competitiveness ‑ slow growth, unemployment etc. While a company can have several ways of securing competitive advantages, most of us will agree that most important pre-requisite for this today is to identify our core competency and focus our energies on this.
It is also equally important to identify what lies outside our core competency and find other, more efficient ways of dealing with these. Managing the information technology needs of a corporation are among the most challenging and critical activities.
A corporation today needs to make sure it creates an IT landscape that meets key business-critical requirements of speed, accuracy, flexibility and cost-efficiency.
Many companies around the world have achieved this by outsourcing their IT require-
ments. They have opted for this as a strategic rather than an opportunistic decision,
with the intention of optimizing and leveraging their global resources, creating a shared services model. Some also look at IT outsourcing as a catalyst for change.
