MacGREGOR opened a new factory in Tianjin, China, on 26 March, so that it can guarantee that deliveries of high quality equipment to the offshore sector will be maintained even during busy times
A year ago MacGREGOR established a new Offshore division. “The offshore sector is flourishing and prospects look good,” said Olli Isotalo, President of the MacGREGOR Group, at the opening ceremony of the new MacGREGOR Plimsoll factory in Tianjin. “Entering the offshore sector was a major step in MacGREGOR’s development as the global leading supplier of cargo flow solutions and load handling equipment.
“The sector is booming, and it is vital that we can guarantee that high quality deliveries will be maintained. With the opening of this new factory, we are in the right place to serve the offshore sector, as well as being in a good position to achieve our business goals.”
Among the reasons for choosing Tianjin as a location were the availability of skilled workers and well established foundries, machine shops and structural steel companies. “These are the keys in delivering quality,” Mr Isotalo said.
The factory will have around 150 employees to start with and is designed to produce over 1,000 sets of deck equipment each year ‑ half of them to be delivered to yards in China ‑ including anchor-handling towing winches, anchor windlasses, capstans and mooring winches, power packs and control accessories.
At the opening ceremony H.E. Mr Antti Kuosmanen, Ambassador of Finland to PRC, said: “MacGREGOR’s successes are a fine example of a strategy based on a well-defined, highly specialised product range and technological leadership in it”.
